State Librarian's Excellence Award
The Library of Michigan Foundation is now accepting nominations for the State Librarian's Excellence Award, to be awarded to a library of any type that exemplifies excellence in customer service. The recipient will receive a check for $5,000, to be used as the library wishes to provide library service, as well a distinctive trophy.

State Librarian's Excellence Award Nomination Form. Deadline for submissions is Sept. 5, 2008.

Library of Michigan Picks 'Raccoon Tune' to Turn Young Readers and Families on to Reading
Aug. 27, 2008 - The Library of Michigan invites adults and children across the state to join in reading "Raccoon Tune" by Michigan author Nancy Shaw as part of Michigan Reads!, the one-state, one-children's-book program devoted to promoting early childhood literacy. The program is slated for September 2008, which Governor Jennifer Granholm has proclaimed Michigan Reads to Children Month.

Granholm Urges State Senate to Pass Legislation Expanding Number of MEGA Tax Credits
In her weekly radio address, Governor Granholm said that tax credits approved by the Michigan Economic Growth Authority board are a crucial economic development tool and urged the Michigan Senate to pass legislation expanding the annual number of MEGA tax credits.
